Utility of renal artery ultrasound for detecting stenosis or obstruction: A narrative review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Acute renal failure can result from many conditions, in which artery stenosis (RAS) or obstruction (RAO) be corrected with appropriate interventional surgical procedures. The directly depicted currently available ultrasound (US) scanners. Therefore, we determine if there is RAS RAO patients poor function using US. However, are few reports about the utility of US excluding obstruction. purpose this review to show clinical applications and diagnostic pitfalls detecting RAO.

Ultrasound Evaluation of Renal Artery Stenosis
Introduction Hypertension affects up to 65 million adults in the United States. A small subset of these patients have renovascular hypertension due to obstruction of the renal arteries. Fortunately, this type of hypertension can be corrected with treatment of the offending renal artery stenosis. Many hypertensive patients are referred for duplex ultrasound to screen for the presence of renal ar...

Six patients with mitral stenosis complicated by renal artery embolism studied prospectively are presented. In five patients there was unilateral and in one patient bilateral renal artery involvement. The diagnosis was confirmed by intravenous pyelography, retrograde pyelography, renal angiography, renal scan or a combination of these. All had atrial fibrillation, proteinuria and elevated ...
متن کاملIntravascular ultrasound evidence for coarctation causing symptomatic renal artery stenosis.
BACKGROUND A recent study of human cadaveric renal arteries revealed that renal artery narrowing could be due not only to atherosclerotic plaque compensated for by adaptive remodeling, but also to hitherto undescribed focal narrowing of an otherwise normal renal arterial wall (ie, coarctation). The present study investigated whether vessel coarctation could be identified in patients with sympto...
متن کاملDoppler ultrasound and renal artery stenosis: An overview.
Renovascular disease is a complex disorder, most commonly caused by fibromuscular dysplasia and atherosclerotic diseases. It can be found in one of three forms: asymptomatic renal artery stenosis (RAS), renovascular hypertension, and ischemic nephropathy. Particularly, the atherosclerotic form is a progressive disease that may lead to gradual and silent loss of renal function. Thus, early diagn...
متن کاملUltrasound as a first line screening tool for the detection of renal artery stenosis: a comprehensive review.
Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is the most common underlying medical condition in secondary hypertension among adults, representing about 5% of all cases of hypertension. Early diagnosis of RAS is an important clinical objective since interventional therapy may improve or cure hypertension and preserve renal function. Contrast angiography is the currently reference standard for the diagnosis of RA...
